Jones West Meet your NC Synod Youth & Family Ministry Coordinator
In August of 2008, I began my 15th year on the synod staff. My commitment to passing on faith includes helping congregations equip families to be places where faith is talked about, shared and deepened. I have the priviledge of spending time with some amazing young people. Our synodical youth events span the ages from 3-12th grade while also including young adults - YARPs (Young Adult Resource Persons) where my goal is to train them to serve our congregations. They are a wonderful reminder that their leadership is a gift today and will be tomorrow too. The LYO Board (Lutheran Youth Organization) consists of 14 high school youth who love to serve, laugh, and pray together. My responsibility with that group is to sit back and watch them struggle with what texts works best. They're amazing. My goal, along with everyone else, is to be a part of raising faithful adults and planting that small seed about their future in ministry. I grew up at Ascension Lutheran, Shelby and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1991. I married Eric 15 years ago and we have one son, Robert 12 yrs. and a 200 pound English Mastiff named Simba. In my rare leisure time I enjoy cooking and scrapbooking, anything but cleaning. I am a member at Mt. Olive, Hickory where Eric and I share the college-age Sunday School class. This fall I gave up scrapbooking and Eric would tell you some cooking to serve as adjunct faculty at Lenoir^Rhyne, teaching a class in family ministry. That is a new and very bizarre experience for me but again, some amazing young adults to spend three hours with each week. I was commissioned as an Associate in Ministry in June of 2008 and graduated from Luther Seminary in May 2009 with a Masters of Arts in Religion - Children, Youth and Family. Current favorite
scripture passage: Psalm 46:10.
