Meet your NC Synod Youth & Family Ministry Coordinator

In August of 2010, I will begin my 17th year on the synod staff. One of the joys of this longevity is pictured above. Jamie Wallace first attended youth convo in 1998 along with his twin brother, Eric. For several years assembly voting members didn't know that there were identical twins roaming about assembly. It wasn't until they were both serving as Young Adult Resource Persons and sitting in the same room that at least one synodical officer got the picture. :) This spring, I was able to surprise Jamie by attending his ordination. What a joy to watch young people lead their peers and this church. They have blessed my faith journey by letting me walk alongside them.

My commitment to passing on faith includes helping congregations equip families to be places where faith is talked about, shared and deepened. I have the priviledge of spending time with some amazing young people. Our synodical youth events span the ages from 3-12th grade while also including young adults - YARPs (Young Adult Resource Persons) where my goal is to train them to serve our congregations. They are a wonderful reminder that their leadership is a gift today and will be tomorrow too.

The LYO Board (Lutheran Youth Organization) consists of 14 high school youth who love to serve, laugh, and pray together. My responsibility with that group is to sit back and watch them struggle with what texts works best. They're amazing. My goal, along with everyone else, is to be a part of raising faithful adults and planting that small seed about their future in ministry.

I grew up at Ascension Lutheran, Shelby and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1991. I married Eric 17 years ago and we have one son, Robert 13 yrs, a 200 pound English Mastiff named Simba, a 120 pound English Mastiff named Nala and a 5 pound cat named Pounce. We also have an LR student living in our basement during the academic year. In my leisure time I enjoy cooking (these guys can EAT!) and scrapbooking, anything but cleaning. I am a member at Mt. Olive, Hickory where Eric and I share the college-age Sunday School class. This fall I will begin year three as adjunct faculty at Lenoir^Rhyne, teaching a class in family ministry. I really enjoy the experience and I am blessed to spend time with amazing young adults for three hours each week.

I was commissioned as an Associate in Ministry in June of 2008 and graduated from Luther Seminary in May 2009 with a Masters of Arts in Religion - Children, Youth and Family.
